QUEER EUROPE – NO STEPS BACK!
We have already achieved a lot in the fight for equal treatment and equal rights of the LGBTIQ+ scene in terms of rights and freedom. This is exactly what must be maintained. There must be no step back from this! A necessary appeal, because in some countries a "rollback", i.e. a step backwards, is clearly noticeable and visible.
The conditions for queer people are getting worse again instead of better in some countries like Poland, Hungary or Ukraine: LGBTIQ+ hostile laws, homophobic propaganda, LGBTIQ+ meeting prohibitions or even assaults. In our European neighbouring countries, and in some cases even in Germany
In the fight for our equality we are still far from reaching our goal ...!
IN EQUALITY LSBTIQ PEOPLE HAVE COME A LONG WAY IN SOME CASES, BUT...
QUEER EUROPE - ALREADY ACHIEVED A LOT...
In the past 51 years since the beginning of PRIDE Movement with the Stonewall Riots in NYC, LGBTIQ+ topics have fortunately already gained high cultural acceptance in all areas of society. At many European countries have already come a long way towards respecting human dignity and equality of LGBTIQ+ people progressed or even almost achieved. A few examples:
Malta (country ranking 1st place)
is the first European country where the ban on Discrimination against people on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity is constitutionally anchored.
In 2014 the registered civil partnership including adoption rights was introduced here, and only three years later marriage was opened to all (with only one vote against in parliament).
The government continues to work on legal and social improvements for trans people. Thanks to these evelopments, Malta has increasingly established itself as a hip queeres Holiday destination established.
Norway (country ranking 5th place)
has passed a progressive transsexual law. The country knows no mercy for homophobic fan chants and the Norwegian Minister of Health is traveling with his husband.
Finland (country ranking 8th place)
The Finnish Prime Minister is in a rainbow Family grown up and a Finnish Olympic swimmer comes out, even though LGBTIQ+ is often still a taboo subject in professional sport.
Sweden (country ranking 10th place)
Sweden introduces the gender-neutral language and is the most homo-friendly country to travel to.
QUEER EUROPE – STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION!!
Despite all the success and progress achieved in about one third of European countries, LGBTIQ+ equality is still not complete in the rest of Europe. Much more, the issue is still a large and sometimes enormous construction site. Here are a few examples:
Hungary (country ranking 27th place)
A transboundary law was newly signed: The sex and name can no longer be changed. The Hungarian state bans homopropaganda as well as mosques and burqas.
Ukraine (country ranking place 36)
The city of Rivne decides on a general ban on CSDs. Right-wing extremists even hunt CSD participants.
Poland (country ranking 42nd place)
Some cities/communities are illegally establishing "LGBTIQ+ free zones". There is a high suicide rate among homosexual teenagers and young adults. According to President Duda, LGBTIQ+ are not people, but only an ideology. Furthermore he presents a homophobic election program.
Turkey (country ranking place 48)
The queer demonstrations and CSDs are regularly banned and put down by the police. According to President Erdogan, the queer community poisons young people.
QUEER EUROPE – PRIDE INSTALLATION
With the PRIDE installation "Queer Europe - no steps back!" we stage the "Rainbow-Europe Country Ranking" visually, moving and symbolically. The ranking is represented by the transverse row of flags, consisting of the flags of all 49 countries of continental Europe are represented - QUEER EUROPE.
The respective ranking for equality/equal rights of LGBTIQ+ people is constantly improving in the direction of the "Human Rights Road". The country Azerbaijan is the farthest away from it and therefore the farthest away from equality/equal rights is the country Azerbaijan on place 49. Direct and deserved neighbour of the "Human Rights Road" with ranking place 1 and best respect and equality of human rights is the country Malta in the Mediterranean Sea. Contentwise as well as optical framework form 50 CSD Nuremberg flags with their "Pride-Love-Triangle" design.
The country ranking clearly shows that respect for human rights and equality of LGBTIQ+ people in Europe is still a major construction site. This is also reflected in the way it is staged. We have deliberately we decided on partly rusty construction steel and rough concrete stones as flagpoles. The raw building materials, combined with the red and white barrier tape as fencing, clearly show that the fight for respect for human rights and the equality of LGBTIQ+ people is far from over - even after 51 years. Rather, the topic is in constant motion - just like the European sea of flags of the CSD-Nuremberg PRIDE installation in the wind.
